The sixth-largest shipyard in Starfleet, the '''New Aberdeen Ship Yards''' is located on the [[Federation]] world of [[Aldebaran III]]. It began solely as a ground-based facility located just south of the city of New Aberdeen, hence the name. Around 2327, orbital spaceframe construction platforms were added which allowed for subsystems to be assembled on the planet and brought into space for final assembly. Some of the first ships built here were the ''Hokule'a''-class and later ''Korolev''-class heavy cruisers. Currently, the shipyard produces [[Akira class]] cruisers and [[Normandy class]] carriers along with several smaller vessel classes.

The [[Advanced Starship Design Bureau]]'s (ASDB) Spacecraft Shielding Division is headquartered here.

During the [[Dominion War]], New Aberdeen was one of only three Federation yards equipped to house and repair certain classes of [[Klingon]] ships. There had been plans to add facilities to accomodate [[Romulan]] ships as well during the early 2380s, but once they pulled out of the joint Obsidian Fleet venture the idea was scrapped.
