<p><b>New page</b></p><div>The starting point for all [[Starfleet]] vessels, these yards are where the ships of the fleet are constructed from scratch. Located across the [[Federation]], they are both large and small, catering for the needs of Starfleet in times of peace and war. While most [[starship]] construction yards can easily handle a workload of five or more capital ships at any given time, some can cope with considerably more - in the region of twenty to thirty or even more in the case of the largest Federation installations - and some others cannot cope with even that number. During times of intergalactic tension, some construction yards are routinely switched to producing ships of a limited range of designs, such as the [[Defiant class|Defiant]] and [[Hornet class|Hornet]], but, under normal circumstances, all vessel types can be built, including runabouts, shuttles and fighters.<br />
